As the tagline of my website says you will find a little bit of everything. Like many of you reading I am constantly battling to find out my goals and purpose. Currently, I make artworks, videos, and write but the only thing that connects each piece to the next is the fact that they were made by me. I have never been able to clearly answer questions like, what is your art about? What are your videos about?
However, I don’t let the “What?” limit me. I am in the process of cultivating a brand at which I am the piece that connects every topic I talk about and every project I get my hands onto. Personally, I connect with creatives who aren’t afraid to share as much about themselves as they can (without hurting their privacy or mental health).
For example, BTS the Korean Idol group are musicians, they work as a group but have solo music as well. They have many other forms of entertainment such as their variety shows and live streams. They’ve made music about many different topics such as the struggles of the youth, ‘war of hormone’ and loving yourself. If you were to ask me what BTS is about, I would have a three page essay just to cover the basics.
Another recent inspiration in Christelle Angèle, a rising content creator who shares her goals, shortcomings and progress on social media. As a creator I understand the difficulty of separating one’s personal life and online presence. However, Christelle has shown up with honesty and sincerity.
The link between these two examples is that they are not limited to a niche or label. Their brand revolves solely around their journey’s. Both BTS and Christelle aim to inspire others and show them that their current situation is okay and that their dreams are a work in progress that they should never give up.
Similarly, I do am not limited to anything other than the name Saleemah. It may take some time to formulate the “what” and “how” of my brand but the why has always been easy to answer. I am here because I believe in sincerity. I believe that we all have something to learn from other people. I want to share my story to bring comfort and inspiration to others.
